Title: Research and Information System Assistant (RISA)

Positions available: 2

Date needed: Immediately

Duration of position: One year preferred.

Hours per week: 10 to 20  (full time positions may be available with university internships)

Who may apply: Anyone with the experience and competencies described below.
(Open to all undergraduate and graduate majors).

Organization: Tutor/Mentor Connection of Chicago

Work location: Primarily at the Tutor/Mentor Connection and through the Internet. Some local travel may be required.

Work description: RISAs will help develop and implement an Internet-based information system.  The system will be used by organizations that provide services and infrastructure support for tutor/mentor programs anywhere in the world.  Also, the system will be used to conduct applied research studies to understand and improve (1) the effectiveness of tutor/mentor programs and organizations and (2) the capacity of business, civic, and other community sectors to support successful youth development.  Activities include the development of Internet and off-line information system tools and procedures, data collection, entry, and analysis, and preparation of reports and presentations.  The work requires interaction with people of all ages and from all community sectors.  Some training will be provided.  Opportunities and support are available for independent research.

Necessary experience and competencies: Ability to work well with others, leadership, curiosity, creativity, excellent reading, writing, and typing ability, word processing, and Internet and email use. Experience with data management and applied research is a plus.
